As often as possible Terry travels using local transportation and these included mini vans, sept-place cars (7-seater cars) and motorbikes. It was also frustrating to hear of the poverty in some of the countries while Terry discovered how much governments spent on a handful of prestigious buildings. I was also interested in how many Africans who came back after slavery was abolished, chose to live as ‘masters’ themselves and built houses similar to the mansions of the deep American South. Some of the slave trade history was hard to read about, but there were lessons here for us all. I know very little about Africa and Terry fills that knowledge with his historical and economic findings. An experienced solo traveler, Terry’s book is sprinkled with photos of his trip. Having read and enjoyed the first book in the series I was very happy to return to Africa under Terry’s guidance. In this book Terry travels alone through Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast and Ghana. A New Day Dawns is the second book in the Travels with Terry, a series of travelogues from West Africa.

Fresco by an anonymous painter depicting 'The Triumph of Death.' Death as a skeleton rides a skeletal horse and picks off his victims. And since this is the story about the making of the Queen of Hearts. I know this is a tragedy, and I know that bad things have to happen to good people for a tragedy to occur. I’m not always opposed to stories where the characters want to be together despite their differences, but I appreciate how Catherine is conflicted.Ĭatherine’s Indecisiveness Had Me (Mentally) Headbanging I like how the ones involved in the star-crossed romance are aware of the difficulties of their attraction and how these difficulties contribute to the the trials they face. Yes, we’re in Wonderland, where most anything we can imagine comes to life. Whimsical (and Interesting) World Building They sound scrumptious. The use of figurative language and imagery does decline as the novel progresses, but the writing is still beautiful and poetic. I especially love her description of the lemon tarts in the first pages of Heartless. Marissa uses figurative language to bring the world the life. Even the one character that seemed too good to be true has his own complexities. Many I loved to loved and others I despised. Heartless is filled with quirky, imperfect characters whose personalities and backstories make them characters that I felt something towards. I didn’t intend to ever make David Beauchamp, or Beach as he’s more commonly called, into a main character. Shanna’s married name is Beauchamp, which she shares with the main character in Bad Behavior. I was even lucky enough to get to meet her once. My first romance was Shanna by Kathleen E. I was already shipping and slashing before I knew what that meant. If there wasn’t a featured romance, I’d often imagine one. Has your choice of childhood or teenage reading genres carried into your own choices for writing? Maybe it’s what makes it easy to slide into different characters’ points of view to tell their stories. I guess that makes me pretty fickle in my opinions. What’s really interesting is that on any given day, my answers could be quite different. Mitchell here today talking about Bad Behavior. Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words is happy to have K.A.
